The kiwifruit is the edible fruit of a cultivar group of the woody vine Actinidia deliciosa and hybrids between this and other species in the same genus. In North America, South America and Europe, most people refer to the fruit simply as "kiwi," which is in fact the name of an indigenous New Zealand bird.
