Loquat jẹ́ ìyekàn Rosaceae ó sì jẹ́ ìjímìjí àwọn apá ìlú òkè tó tutù south-central China.[2][3] Ní Japan, igi loquat ri jẹ́ ohun ọ̀gbìn fún bíi ẹgbẹ̀rún ọdún. Ó ti di ohun tí à ń gbìn káàkiri àwọn orílẹ̀-èdè tó gbóná fẹ́ẹ́rẹ́fẹ́ káàkiri àgbáye.[4]
