Subcategory needed (ẹ̀ka abẹ́) àtúnṣe

This category needs a subcategory in the Yoruba Wikipedia:

Kindly state how to write this in Èdè Yorùbá, and I'll do the following:

  • create the category
  • add YO WP to the existing Wikidata item to make interwiki links
  • move existing subcategories
  • indicate possible needed subcategories based on existing bio pages

I'll watch for developments here. - Deborahjay (ọ̀rọ̀) 08:45, 19 Oṣù Kẹta 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hello Deborahjay
[Category:Nigerian people by occupation] translates to [Ẹ̀ka:Àwọn ènìyàn Nàìjíríà nípa ìṣẹ́ tí wón ń ṣe]
I'll watch out for the subsequent questions, cheers! Marvelousola01 (ọ̀rọ̀) 17:49, 21 Oṣù Kẹta 2023 (UTC)Reply
M. Ola, I wonder if the wording needs focus? This is the beginning of a series of categories (Women by occupation, etc.), so may I ask: what about words like ojúṣe or oojo? (Yes, these are from machine translation and without context, but at this point you're the only Yoruba speaker I'm consulting.) What do you prefer? - Deborahjay (ọ̀rọ̀) 19:24, 21 Oṣù Kẹta 2023 (UTC)Reply
Ojúṣe means duty(what is required of someone to do) and not necessarily occupation and the word "oojo" literally has no meaning related to occupation.
For better and concise word, I'll reach out to an expert editor and also a Yoruba Language expert in this community and get back to you. Marvelousola01 (ọ̀rọ̀) 19:35, 26 Oṣù Kẹta 2023 (UTC)Reply
Thank you, Oníṣe:Marvelousola01. This is a valuable consideration at this very point - as the next step will be to create in the Yoruba WP many (or all) of the matching categories from the English model:
a subcategory under the recently created Ẹ̀ka:Àwọn obìnrin here.
The first occupation categories needed will be for the recently created biographies, also for other African women (e.g. Ghanaian and Ethiopian athletes). Take your time and I'll watch for the consensus suggestions. Note: additional occupations categories will be for men, which I'll ask with specific wording. - Deborahjay (ọ̀rọ̀) 16:09, 27 Oṣù Kẹta 2023 (UTC)Reply
Hello Oníṣe:Deborahjay, according to him "Nigeria people by occupation" also translate to "Àwọn ènìyàn Nàìjíríà nípa iṣẹ́ wọn"
You can't really get a concise phrase for it in Yoruba, it has to be a combination of words.
also translato "Àwọn ènìyàn Nàìjíríà àti iṣẹ́ wọn" te Marvelousola01 (ọ̀rọ̀) 08:14, 29 Oṣù Kẹta 2023 (UTC)Reply
