Ọ̀rọ̀:Frederick Fáṣeun
Surname in English
àtúnṣeIs the page name the correct Yoruba spelling? Two cited English-language sources spell his surname Fasehun, and so does the Wikidata item in English. -- Deborahjay (ọ̀rọ̀) 15:37, 19 Oṣù Kínní 2020 (UTC)
- User:Deborahjay Fáṣeun is a Yoruba name. "Fáṣeun" means "Thanks to the mystical figure Ifa". Fasehun is not correct and does not exist in Yoruba orthography. Although, I have seen many sources spelling it like this. "ṣ" produces the "ʃ" ("sh") sounds. In Yoruba language, "ṣ" is used to produce the "ʃ" ("sh") sounds. I mean, we write "ṣ" instead of "sh". Please let me know if you need further clarification. T CellsTalk 16:54, 19 Oṣù Kínní 2020 (UTC)
- I've added the Yoruba spelling to the lead sentence of the en.WP page and the Wikidata item Talk page as well. As you've noted, several of the cited English-language sources use the spelling "Fasehun" - which is peculiar, as one would think a better transcription would be "Fasheun"? I'll return to you on a case-to-case basis with questions about naming rules. Your clarifications are so instructive! -- Deborahjay (ọ̀rọ̀) 14:05, 20 Oṣù Kínní 2020 (UTC)
